History: Blessed Mother Marie-Rose Durocher founded the Sisters of the Most Holy Names of Jesus and Mary [a.k.a. the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary] in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, 1843, who self-identify with the post-nominal initials, “S.N.J.M.” They made their first U.S. foundation in 1859, which led to ministry to Native Americans in Oregon and Washington (e.g. Grand Ronde, Spokane, Washo), 1864-1968, and the development of the United States-Ontario Province (Archives: Marylhurst, Oregon).
